Public programs for 24-25

September 4, World Cultures & Travel: Joanne and Steve Auerbach will lead a Jeopardy-style around-the-world trivia game in which everyone can participate.

September 11, Art: Page Knox, adjunct professor in the Art History Department of Columbia University and lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will give an illustrated talk on the Met’s recent exhibit, The Harlem Renaissance.

September 18, Food & Dining: Arlotta Food Studio, whose journey began at a farmers market in Bridgehampton a decade ago, will offer an organic olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting and presentation.

September 19, Thursday, Home & Garden: Leslie Chang of the Scarsdale Historical Society will show a 30-minute film and discuss the history of our clubhouse, Rowsley.

September 24, Open House: Learn about our programs, volunteering opportunities and the benefits of membership.

September 25, Literature & Film: Kathleen Williamson, author of a poetry collection "Feather & Bone," and Anne Swaim, director, Saw Mill River Audubon.

October 1, Music: The Balsam Trio of violin, cello and piano, from the Aaron Copland School of Music, will perform.

October 9, Education: Emily Kenison, author of “The Book of Women Inventors,” will give a vibrant presentation on women’s inventions from 1790 to 1880.

October 16, Food & Dining: The prestigious Great SWC Chili Cook-Off: Our talented member chefs will vie to be crowned Queen of Chili, 1 pm.

October 19 and 20, Saturday and Sunday, Tag & Book Sale, 9-3:30 and 10-3, all profits to charity.

October 23, World Cultures & Travel: Rebeca Tomas will present a Flamenco performance and demonstrate techniques of the dance.

October 30, Literature & Film: Shira Buchsbaum, exhibitions manager, the Grolier Club — America’s oldest and largest society for bibliophiles.

November 13, Education: Dr. Michael Wald, DC Board Certified nutritionist and dietician, will present “Natural Approaches to Maximizing Memory & Reducing Dementia.” He focuses on food, exercise, genetics and on ways for us to be actively involved in our own health.

November 14, Thursday, 7 pm: Wine tasting and silent auction

December 11, Education: Lawrence Faltz, M.D. and amateur astronomer, will light up our minds and spirits with “Stars.” From the beginning of time, people have been relating to, interpreting and symbolizing stars. Do stars really emit cosmic energy that affects us?

December 18, Art: Laura Leone, senior project manager at the New York Public Library, will demonstrate how you can visit the library’s collections of art, music, theater and literature from the comfort of your home. 

January 8, Education: Angela Stent, professor of government affairs at Georgetown University and director of Eurasian, Russian and European studies, will discuss “Putin’s World – Russia against the West and the Rest.”

January 15, Philanthropy: Presentation by a charity supported by the club.

January 29, Music: The Scarsdale High School Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will perform together under the direction of Amanda Gundling.

February 12, Education: David Osborne, historian at St. Paul’s Church National Historical Site, will explore “How Ruth Turner went from Slavery to Freedom in the Shadow of St. Paul’s Church.”

March 12, Education: Rick Feingold, who holds an MBA from Penn State University and teaches business history, will discuss “How Barbie, an American Icon, Came to Be.”

March 19, Home & Garden: Regina Blakeslee of Cornell Cooperative Extension on “Gardening Challenges and Opportunities.”

April 2, Food & Dining: Ruth Walter, co-owner of Dobbs & Bishop Fine Cheese, will give a presentation on all things cheese, tasting included.

April 16, Art: Lorella Brocklesby, adjunct professor at NYU and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, will discuss “Art at the Theater.”

April 23, Literature & Film: Barbara Davis, co-director, Westchester County Historical Society, on the early years of filmmaking in Westchester.

April 26 and 27, Saturday and Sunday, Tag & Book Sale, 9-3:30 and 10-3, all profits to charity.

April 30, World Cultures & Travel: World traveler Jerald David will give an illustrated talk about British Columbia, Canada.

May 7, Home & Garden, “Decorating Your Home to Sell or Dwell” with Susan Atwell of Atwell Staged Home

May 14, Education: Mauro Contrastano combines words and musical parody in this humorous presentation entitled “Plastically Challenged.” He focuses on his struggle to cope in the 21st century – everything from vacuum packaging to AI, Chat GBT, GPS and the demise of cursive writing.

May 21, Music: JiWon Yang, award-winning pianist who made her solo debut at the age of 9 at the Mozart Hall in Seoul.

June 18, Music: Music Under the Stars, 7 pm
